Navigating the Waves of Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship in the Southern Mediterranean: CREACT4MED Annual Conference III and Med CCI Hub Event

The cultural and creative industries (CCI) are increasingly being recognized as an important source of economic independence, job creation, social cohesion, and wellbeing. The Mediterranean’s rich cultural background and dynamic young population means there is great potential for the CCI to be real drivers of growth and prosperity, but industries and infrastructures are often fragmented and poorly supported. By enhancing and promoting the cultural and creative sectors as catalysts for job creation and economic development, CREACT4MED seeks to strengthen CCI ecosystems in the region and unleash the full potential of the CCI to create empowered and flourishing societies.

In CREACT4MED’s 3rd Annual Conference, held online on the 30th and 31st January 2024: Navigating the Waves of Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship in the Southern Mediterranean, we brought together over 190 stakeholders from across the region to build bridges and discuss innovative ideas on creativity’s social and economic role, cultural policies, and job creation within the sector. We heard from talented artists and industry professionals across the Southern Mediterranean in the form of keynote speeches, panel discussions and interactive debates as they addressed the many challenges, opportunities and unlocked potential that lay within these multifaceted industries. During the MED CCI Hub Event, participants networked at spin tables, learning about a variety of opportunities open to entrepreneurs, as well as discussing 1-1 how to improve their businesses and build synergies. The event served as a great opportunity for members of the community to connect and empower one another to strengthen the cultural and creative industries in the Southern Mediterranean.

The conference was co-organised by the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association, the lead partner, and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMED), the project partner, in collaboration with Culture Funding Watch.
